Program Description:
In this episode of Unstruct, we explore the future of urban infrastructure with Future World Vision, a software program that allows designers to plan for the challenges of rapidly growing cities. Our guest, Kelly Price, El., discusses the program’s modular housing node, which enables the construction of new buildings on top of existing historic structures while promoting flexibility in materials used. As a result, we can preserve the character of the city while accommodating its growing population. Kelly also shares her experience with outreach efforts to promote the software to other engineers and how it can be used to train future designers. Join us to discover how Future World Vision can help us understand the impact of environmental, technical, and socioeconomic systems on the places we will live and work, and how we can design for a better future.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the concept of modular housing and how it can be used in existing building rehabilitation and construction.
- Learn about the benefits of using software to visualize and plan future infrastructure projects, as demonstrated by the example of the megacity software discussed.
- Gain an understanding of the role of bean systems in facilitating user interaction with modular housing and other types of infrastructure.
- Explore ways of promoting infrastructure planning and software design tools to future generations, particularly young people, in order to inspire interest in the field and encourage innovative thinking about the built environment.
