I focus a lot of time helping architects reposition their firms from service provider, or order taker, to trusted and valued advisor and one thing that I’ve learned is necessary is the ability to create change. If someone calls to see if you can give them a permit set, or if you talk about how good your construction documents are, you’re focusing on a very static idea, a thing, an object. You’re setting yourself up as an order taker. If you focus on making their business, or their life better, you’re creating change and you’re seen as valuable.
